Comparisons

Conifer compared with other LLM gateways and routers

Each comparison sets out how the other product works, using that company’s own published documentation, and where it may fit better than Conifer.

Conifer in brief

Conifer is a hosted gateway for more than 230 models, each billed at its maker’s published list price from a prepaid balance. A request that names a model is served by that model or refused, and every response states the model that served it and the exact amount charged. Its router picks a model for each request from a pool you approve, and routing adds no fee.

Gateways

Conifer vs OpenRouter
OpenRouter offers a larger catalog, in-region routing on its Business plan and contract terms such as SSO and SLAs on its Enterprise plan.
Conifer vs LiteLLM
LiteLLM is an open-source gateway and Python SDK. You run the gateway on your own infrastructure, in front of provider accounts you hold, and its Enterprise licence adds single sign-on, audit logs and support.
Conifer vs Portkey
Portkey is a gateway and operations platform with observability, guardrails, prompt management and governance in one product. It runs on Portkey’s cloud, in a hybrid setup inside your environment, or from its open-source gateway, and it connects to provider accounts you hold.
Conifer vs Helicone
Helicone is an observability platform with an AI gateway. It logs requests for analysis, offers sessions, prompts, datasets and alerts, and can be self-hosted from open-source code.
Conifer vs Vercel AI Gateway
Vercel AI Gateway is a managed gateway run by Vercel. Apps can call it from any server, whether or not they run on Vercel, and it covers text, image, video, speech, transcription, realtime, embedding and reranking models at the provider’s list price, with no markup on tokens.
Conifer vs Cloudflare AI Gateway
Cloudflare AI Gateway runs on Cloudflare’s infrastructure in front of the AI providers you use. Its core features, which are analytics, caching and rate limiting, are free on all plans, and you pay for models with your own provider keys or with Cloudflare credits through Unified Billing.
Conifer vs Kong AI Gateway
Kong AI Gateway governs LLM, MCP and agent-to-agent traffic with policies for access, guardrails, rate limits and cost. It is configured in Kong Konnect, and you connect it to each provider with your own credentials.
Conifer vs TrueFoundry AI Gateway
TrueFoundry AI Gateway is an enterprise gateway with governance, guardrails, an MCP gateway and observability, part of a wider TrueFoundry platform that also deploys, trains and fine-tunes models. It runs as a managed service or, on the Enterprise plan, inside your own cloud or data centre, and it connects to provider accounts you hold.
Conifer vs Bifrost
Bifrost is an open-source AI gateway from Maxim AI, released under the Apache 2.0 licence. You run it on your own infrastructure, in front of provider accounts you hold, and Bifrost Enterprise adds clustering, guardrails, single sign-on and audit logs.

Routers

Conifer vs Requesty
Requesty is a hosted AI gateway for more than 600 models, with routing policies, spending limits, governance and request logs. Its Auto Routing, in beta, picks a model for each conversation from routes you describe in plain words.
Conifer vs Not Diamond
